Sri Lanka Achieves Historic Victory in Record-Breaking Run Chase Against England

Rawalpindi: Sri Lanka achieved a historic victory against England in a One Day International (ODI) match in Rawalpindi, successfully chasing down a target of 430 runs to win by two wickets. This victory marks the second-highest successful run chase in ODI cricket history, surpassed only by South Africa's 434-run chase against Australia in 2006.

According to International Cricket Council, the remarkable chase was anchored by Pavan Rathnayake's 130 off 106 balls, supported by Avishka Fernando's aggressive 97 and a swift 97 from Dasun Shanaka, who hit eight sixes. Sri Lanka's captain, Kusal Mendis, praised the team's belief and performance, noting plans to celebrate briefly before focusing on future matches.

Earlier, England set a formidable target with Harry Brook's unbeaten 202, supported by contributions from Will Jacks, Tom Banton, and Joe Root. Despite Brook's record-breaking innings, he expressed disappointment at the loss, commending Sri Lanka's exceptional play.

The victory adds a significant chapter to the Sri Lanka-England rivalry, with Sri Lanka now having opened their account in the tri-series. England, yet to win, will need to regroup, as Pakistan leads the table with two victories.
