Sialkot’s Azan Awais Shines in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Victory

Karachi: Sialkot Region secured their third Quaid-e-Azam Trophy title with a narrow one-wicket victory against Peshawar Region at the UBL Sports Complex. The tightly contested match marked the culmination of a successful season for Sialkot, which saw them win five out of eight matches, drawing the remaining three.

According to Pakistan Cricket Board, Azan Awais, the opening batter, played a pivotal role in Sialkot’s triumph, emerging as the top run-scorer of the tournament with 844 runs in 13 innings at an average of 76.73. Azan, who debuted in first-class cricket this season after representing Pakistan at the ICC U19 World Cup 2024, quickly made a mark with consistent performances, including four centuries and a career-high 203 not out against Peshawar.

Reflecting on his debut first-class season, Azan expressed satisfaction over his learning experience and acknowledged the support from his team management and senior players. His dedication and focus helped him convert starts into substantial innings, a skill honed through hard work and coaching in recent months.

Azan’s cricketing journey this year included a tour to South Africa with the Pakistan U19 team and participation in domestic competitions like the President’s Trophy Grade-II and the Champions One-Day Cup. Looking ahead, he is set to represent Eshaal Associates in the upcoming President’s Trophy Grade-I.
