Faisalabad: The Champions One-Day Cup is set to commence at Iqbal Stadium this Thursday, with Pakistan Test vice-captain Saud Shakeel leading the Dolphins. The tournament features five teams and will conclude with the final on September 29, with games typically starting at 3 pm local time.
According to Pakistan Cricket Board, the Dolphins, under the mentorship of former national captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, will face Shadab Khan’s Panthers in their first match on Saturday. The presence of Sarfaraz Ahmed not only as a player but also as a mentor is expected to greatly benefit the team, particularly in honing the skills of younger players.
Saud Shakeel discussed the team dynamics and preparation, emphasizing the balanced mix of experience and fresh talent within the squad. “The focus is on maintaining a strong combination of experienced players and young talent. This tournament provides an opportunity for players to prove their mettle and impress the selectors,” he stated in an interview with PCB Digital. He also highlighted the importance of the tournament in providing a platform for domestic players to showcase their skills in the 50-over format, crucial ahead of international fixtures.
The Dolphins squad includes players from across the country, showcasing a diverse lineup as the team prepares to trim down to 15 members before the competition heats up.
