Rajasthan Revokes Land Allotment for Madrasa Following Hindu Group Protests

Udaipur: In a controversial move, the Rajasthan government has revoked a land allotment intended for a madrasa in Mavli town of Udaipur district, previously sanctioned under the Congress-led administration of Ashok Gehlot. This decision comes amidst significant pressure from Hindu groups.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the allotment cancellation followed demonstrations led by Hindutva organizations, provoking a strong reaction from the Muslim community who perceive this action as discriminatory. The land, totaling 4 bighas and 16 biswa, was originally granted in 2021 during the tenure of the then Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

The cancellation has elicited disappointment and resentment among local Muslims. Mohammad Imran, a resident of the area, expressed his dismay, highlighting a perceived double standard in the treatment of community-specific allocations. “We are Indians, and this is our land too,” he stated, lamenting the resistance faced by Muslims when provided governmental support, in contrast to the acceptance of similar benefits by other groups.

The protests, orchestrated by Sarva Hindu Samaj on January 28, 2022, featured substantial participation and speeches by influential figures such as regional MP and former BJP state president CP Joshi, who criticized the allocation as politically motivated and lacking in fairness.

Following these events, the Udaipur District Collector, Arvind Kumar Poswal, recommended the revocation of the land allotment, a suggestion quickly implemented by the state authorities.

The incident has sparked further outcry among the Muslim community, with leaders voicing concerns over increasing obstacles to their educational and welfare initiatives. The situation remains tense as community members call for equitable treatment and reassessment of the decision.
