LAHORE: Punjab University Centre for Civility and Integrity Development (CCID) organized a seminar on Thursday to mark the International Day on Prevention of Violent Extremism. The event featured key speakers including PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali and former Director Research at the National Counter Terrorism Authority Dr Dayyab Gillani, along with other faculty members and students.
According to University of the Punjab, the seminar addressed significant challenges in Pakistani society that impede efforts to counter extremism. Prof Dr Muhammad Ali emphasized the need for national unity and urged citizens to prioritize national interest over group, linguistic, sectarian, and regional differences. He remarked that fostering a unified national identity is crucial for achieving progress and stability.
Dr Dayyab Gillani, in his keynote address, presented a research report identifying themes that classify and identify violent and extremist tendencies in educational materials. He highlighted the deficiencies in the current curriculum and stressed the importance of meaningful reforms. Participants concluded the event by commending Dr Shabbir Ahmad Khan for organizing an insightful seminar.
