Lahore: A two-day international academic conference titled "History Writing: Modern Trends and New Perspectives" commenced on Monday at Punjab University Al Raazi Hall. The event is organized to explore evolving historiographical trends and new methodological approaches, bringing together prominent historians, academicians, scholars, and students from both national and international backgrounds.

According to University of the Punjab, the conference's inaugural session featured notable speakers including PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, Professor Sujit Sivasundaram from the University of Cambridge, and Prof Dr Rukhsana Iftikhar, who serves as the conference secretary and Chairperson of the Department of History & Pakistan Studies. Prof Dr Muhammad Ali emphasized that history writing involves an ongoing scholarly process, underlining the importance of historical research and academic freedom in shaping national discourse. The session concluded with an interactive discussion, allowing students to engage with the visiting scholars. The conference will continue until September 29, 2026, with various thematic panels and presentations by research scholars.
