Punjab Minister Calls for Media and Institutional Collaboration on Environmental Issues

Lahore: During a seminar held at Punjab University, Sardar Rameesh Singh Arora, Punjab’s Minister for Human Rights and Minority Affairs, emphasized the crucial role of media and state institutions in tackling environmental challenges and promoting sustainable practices. The event, titled “Sustainable Social Practices: Combating Climate Change,” was organized by the university’s Department of Social Work and Sughra Begum Centre for Education Policy and Development in partnership with AGAHE Pakistan.

According to University of the Punjab, the seminar convened at Al Raazi Hall, featuring keynotes from esteemed faculty and environmental experts, including PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, and AGAHE CEO Mubarak Ali Sarwar. Prof Dr Muhammad Ali addressed issues such as food wastage, inefficient agricultural practices, and the unavailability of pure milk in Pakistan, linking these to broader environmental and sustainability challenges.

The event also highlighted the proactive role of the Department of Social Work’s students in shaping environment-friendly policies, as shared by Prof Dr Uzma Ashiq. She advocated for enhanced collaboration between academia and government ministries to foster societal advancements.

Mubarak Ali Sarwar discussed his organization’s efforts in promoting sustainable environmental practices and reducing climate change impacts. The seminar concluded with Dr Sonia Omer emphasizing the importance of combined efforts between academia and the development sector to ensure lasting environmental and social improvements.
