Punjab Government Launches Rs 3 Billion Initiatives for Athletes and Graduates

Lahore: In a significant move to bolster sports and education in Punjab, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar, the Provincial Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, inaugurated a Rs 2 billion Sports Endowment Fund and a Rs 1 billion Chief Minister Internship Programme. The ceremony took place at the CM Secretariat at 90 Shara-e-Quaid-e-Azam, reflecting a robust push towards nurturing young talent in the region.

According to Sports Board Punjab, the event was marked by the presence of several cabinet members including Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir and Minister of Local Government and Community Development Zeeshan Rafiq. The launch was part of a broader vision championed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to enhance opportunities for youth in sports and professional development. The top 200 players from various sports in Punjab were awarded stipends at the ceremony, signaling the government’s commitment to merit-based advancement.

The Sports Endowment Fund will provide monthly stipends of Rs 70,000, Rs 50,000, and Rs 30,000 to top athletes, classified into three categories, for a year. The initiative not only aims to support the financial needs of athletes but also includes provisions for health insurance and nutritional support, ensuring comprehensive welfare. Additionally, the Chief Minister Internship Programme is set to benefit 6,000 graduates with a monthly stipend of Rs 25,000, with plans to expand the reach to 12,000 graduates next year.

These programs are a testament to the Punjab government’s dedication to elevating sports and academic standards across the province, promising a brighter future for its youth.
