LAHORE: Punjab University School of Communication Studies Radio FM 104.6 commemorated its 23rd anniversary with a cake-cutting ceremony attended by notable figures from the university and the media industry.
The event saw the participation of former Punjab University Vice Chancellor Lt. General (r) Arshad Mahmood, Director School of Communication Studies Prof Dr Abida Ashraf, and other esteemed faculty members, including Prof Dr Nosheena Saleem and Prof Dr Lubna Zaheer. Students and faculty gathered to mark more than two decades of broadcasting and educational service.
Lt. General (r) Arshad Mahmood, in his address, reflected on the inception of the radio station under his leadership as Vice Chancellor. He highlighted its role in enhancing students’ practical training and mental aptitude. He recalled how the radio station’s team demonstrated commendable journalism during the 2005 Muzaffarabad-Kashmir earthquake by reporting live from affected areas, earning recognition nationally and internationally.
Mahmood emphasized the importance of leveraging training from the station to enhance the institution’s and Pakistan’s reputation globally. He urged students to use social media positively and cultivate a culture of respect and patience.
Prof Dr Abida Ashraf acknowledged the foundational contributions of Mahmood, noting that many alumni of PU Radio have gone on to successful careers in media both domestically and abroad. She pointed out the evolution of radio into modern formats like podcasts, underscoring the need for technological proficiency.
The ceremony concluded with the cake-cutting, symbolizing the station’s continued commitment to educational excellence and media innovation.
