Dubai: South Africa’s cricket team captain, Laura Wolvaardt, has expressed a strong desire to lead her team to victory at the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. After reaching the finals for the first time in the last tournament, Wolvaardt is looking to go one step further and clinch the title.
According to International Cricket Council, Wolvaardt reflected on the significance of their previous World Cup performance and the impact it had on women’s cricket in South Africa. She underscored the team’s readiness and determination to build on that success in the 2024 tournament hosted in Sharjah and Dubai, highlighting the neutral playing conditions as an exciting challenge for all teams.
Wolvaardt also discussed the preparations and adjustments the team has made to adapt to the UAE’s climate, contrasting it with South Africa’s current winter conditions. With a history of strong performances in similar conditions, the team’s recent experiences in Pakistan and India have been pivotal in their preparation. South Africa will begin their World Cup campaign against the West Indies on October 4th in Dubai.
