ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized Pakistan's dedication to enhancing maritime safety, security, and regulatory practices, aligning with international standards, in a message for World Maritime Day, observed on September 24. He extended greetings to the nation's maritime community, acknowledging their crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of maritime transport.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, President Zardari highlighted this year's theme, "From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence," underscoring the importance of translating international maritime standards into effective national regulations and practice. He stressed the need for continued investment in maritime education and training to prepare the workforce for technological advancements, such as digital navigation and new fuels.

The president also mentioned Pakistan's efforts to modernize its maritime infrastructure, including the installation of a Vessel Traffic Management System at Port Qasim, which is expected to enhance navigational safety and operational efficiency. He further stressed the importance of environmental protection and preparing the maritime sector for greener shipping.

In light of regional tensions, President Zardari praised the nation's seafarers and maritime personnel for their professionalism and resolve, which have brought pride to the country.
