KARACHI: Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor criticized the Pakistani government and opposition on Wednesday for remaining silent on the issue of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui's imprisonment, calling it a "black day" for the nation. Shakoor highlighted that September 23 marked the anniversary of Dr. Siddiqui's 86-year sentencing by an American federal court in 2010.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, Shakoor addressed a torch-bearing rally organized by the party, which marched from UP More to Nagan Chowrangi. The rally was attended by several PDP leaders, including Karachi chapter president Abdul Hakeem Quaid and district Central team leaders. Shakoor expressed concern that while the government and opposition are embroiled in disputes over various issues, they remain silent on the critical matter of Dr. Siddiqui's release.

Shakoor urged the nation to question why the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui is absent from the political agenda of both the government and opposition. He acknowledged issues such as price hikes but emphasized that Dr. Siddiqui's situation should not be overlooked. Shakoor called for the government to engage in legal and diplomatic efforts to secure Dr. Siddiqui's release, urging politicians and Parliament to adopt a serious approach to this national issue.

Participants in the rally carried banners and chanted slogans demanding Dr. Aafia Siddiqui's early release, reflecting the growing public sentiment on the matter.
