Islamabad, In a significant development within Pakistan’s political landscape, spokespersons for the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Faisal Karim Kundi and Nadeem Afzal Chan, have made critical remarks about the recent collaboration between Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), casting doubts on the integrity of recent election processes and coalition formations. During a press conference, they highlighted concerns over the fairness of elections, the need for electoral reforms, and the PPP’s stance on forming government coalitions.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, the meeting between JUI and PTI in Islamabad marked a significant shift, prompting calls for more responsible media coverage and regulatory oversight. The PPP leaders questioned the validity of claims regarding stolen mandates, particularly pointing out the irony in JUI’s alliance with PTI, despite previous electoral losses in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and ongoing sit-ins in Sindh. They emphasized that if any electoral mandate was compromised, it was ostensibly redirected to the same factions now aligning with JUI.
The PPP spokespersons stressed the importance of unity and reconciliation in politics, contrasting their approach with the perceived opportunism of other parties. They underscored the PPP’s decision to support a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate for Prime Minister as a measure to prevent potential political instability and the impracticality of new elections given the country’s current state.
The press conference also served as a platform for the PPP to advocate for electoral reforms, including the adoption of electronic voting systems, to ensure democracy’s resilience. The leaders expressed their readiness to engage in dialogue with all political factions to safeguard democratic principles and governance.
The PPP’s commitment to non-participation in the cabinet, along with plans to form a government in Balochistan without JUI involvement, was highlighted as part of their broader strategy to maintain political integrity and focus on governance over coalition politics.
This announcement comes amidst a complex political scenario in Pakistan, where alliances and electoral legitimacy are increasingly under scrutiny. The PPP’s call for electoral reforms and a more inclusive dialogue among political parties reflects an urgent need to address systemic challenges and restore public faith in the democratic process.
