PPP Condemns Tear Gas Use on Peshawar Protesters

Peshawar: Pakistan Peoples Party Secretary General Muhammad Humayun Khan has issued a strong condemnation following the use of tear gas and violence against government employees at the Provincial Assembly Chowk in Peshawar. The party leader expressed his disapproval of the forceful measures taken against workers who were demanding a salary increase.

Khan criticized the actions of the PTI-led provincial government, accusing it of exploiting public workers. He questioned the reluctance of the authorities to raise salaries, asserting that the Pakistan Peoples Party has historically supported increases for government employees, even in challenging economic times.

Highlighting the plight of lower-grade employees, Khan argued that many have fallen below the poverty line. He asserted that economic exploitation of public servants is not conducive to national progress. He emphasized the right of citizens to democratic protest and pledged the party’s support for the demonstrators.

Khan condemned the use of tear gas and batons, particularly against women, labeling it as unacceptable. He called on the provincial government to heed the legitimate demands of the employees and to release those who had been detained during the protests.
