Polish Minister’s Visit to Pakistan Highlights Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Islamabad: Tomasz Siemoniak, a senior Polish minister, met with President Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad today, underscoring the growing bilateral relations between Poland and Pakistan. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including defense, economy, and people-to-people exchanges.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, President Zardari emphasized the importance of maintaining cordial relations with Poland, based on mutual respect and shared interests. He expressed optimism that the visit would expand the existing cooperation into a multifaceted partnership benefiting both nations. The President acknowledged Poland's recognition of Pakistan's diplomatic role amid the recent US-Iran tensions and reiterated Pakistan's commitment to peaceful dispute resolution for regional and global stability.

President Zardari also highlighted Poland's economic achievements and stressed the potential for deeper business and leadership-level interactions. He thanked Poland for its support of Pakistan regarding the EU's GSP Plus scheme and voiced confidence in continued coordination at regional and multilateral forums.

Tomasz Siemoniak reciprocated by appreciating Pakistan's efforts in promoting regional peace and stability. He conveyed greetings from Poland's President and Prime Minister, expressing Poland's intent to strengthen bilateral ties through increased political, economic, and cultural engagements. Siemoniak mentioned Poland's historical ties with Pakistan, particularly in defense, and explored further collaboration possibilities in security, immigration, and counter-terrorism.

During the meeting, it was announced that a street in Islamabad will be named after Air Commodore Wladyslaw Józef Marian Turowicz, a Polish Air Force officer who contributed to the Pakistan Air Force's development. The meeting was attended by Polish Ambassador Maciej Pisarski and other high-ranking officials, alongside Pakistani leaders including Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi and Senators Sherry Rehman and Saleem Mandviwalla.
