Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to conduct its first-ever women’s cricket trials in the Sost Valley, among other locations nationwide, starting from 5 August. This initiative is part of a broader effort to tap into female cricketing talent across the country, particularly from remote areas, to bolster the national team’s pool.
According to Pakistan Cricket Board, the trials will be conducted in two phases across 14 cities, with the initial phase taking place in Gilgit, Hunza, and Sost from 5 to 7 August. The second phase will start on 21 August and conclude on 3 September. Former international cricketers Asad Shafiq and Batool Fatima, who are part of the women’s national selection committee, will oversee the trials. The trials are divided into two categories: U19 and emerging players, with eligibility for the U19 category restricted to players born on or after 1 September 2005.
Participants are required to register online and bring necessary documentation to the trials, including birth certificates and CNIC copies. On-site registration will also be available for convenience. In case of inclement weather, the trials for any affected city will be rescheduled to early September.
Asad Shafiq commented on the trials, emphasizing their importance in discovering and developing future women cricketers and providing them with opportunities to advance to domestic and national levels. Batool Fatima highlighted the trials as a crucial step in nurturing young talent and encouraged parental support for young aspirants.
The schedule for the trials is meticulously planned to cover various regions, ensuring wide accessibility for potential talent to participate and showcase their skills.
