Pasban Democratic Party Calls for Imran Khan’s Involvement in Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s Release

Karachi: The Pasban Democratic Party has recently stated that former Prime Minister Imran Khan is in a pivotal position to influence the release and return of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui from U.S. imprisonment, leveraging the current support from seven American senators.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, Chairman Altaf Shakur highlighted that the current government, unlike its predecessors, has officially requested the U.S. for Aafia’s release, marking a significant departure from 22 years of inaction. Shakur criticized previous administrations for their lack of initiative in securing Aafia’s freedom, despite having opportunities to do so through prisoner exchanges. He commended the current government for its efforts but emphasized that Imran Khan, with the support of U.S. senators, should actively push for her release without concern for political credit.

The statement also included criticism of the trial and imprisonment of Aafia in the U.S., describing it as wrongful and a national dishonor. Shakur urged the Pakistani government to adopt a firm diplomatic stance rather than a submissive one. He reiterated that the return of the “nation’s daughter” was not included in any government’s manifesto to date, suggesting a broader lack of commitment across political parties.

The Pasban Democratic Party also expressed its gratitude towards the Sindh Assembly for passing a resolution demanding Aafia’s release, viewing it as a fulfillment of a national duty and obligation. The party calls for persistent and serious efforts by the Pakistani government to restore public trust through the successful negotiation of Aafia’s return.
