Colombo: Pakistan’s top-order batter Sidra Amin has been reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct during the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 match against India. The incident, which occurred in the 40th over of Pakistan’s innings, saw Sidra hitting her bat onto the pitch after being dismissed.
The breach pertains to Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which addresses the misuse of cricket equipment or clothing, as well as ground equipment or fixtures during an international match. As a result of her actions, one demerit point has been added to Sidra’s disciplinary record. This marks her first offence within a 24-month period.
Level 1 breaches, such as this, carry penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a possible fine of up to 50 percent of a player’s match fee, in addition to one or two demerit points. The charges against Sidra were brought by on-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Nimali Perera, along with third umpire Kerrin Klaaste and fourth umpire Kim Cotton.
Sidra accepted the charge and the subsequent sanction proposed by Shandré Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, thus avoiding a formal hearing. Despite the reprimand, Sidra’s performance was notable as she was the leading run-scorer for Pakistan, amassing 81 runs off 106 balls in the match, which ended in an 88-run defeat for her team.
Looking ahead, Pakistan is set to face Australia in their next Women’s Cricket World Cup fixture on October 8 in Colombo.
