Pakistani Scholar Highlights Women’s Empowerment in Media at International Symposium in Turkey

Lahore, Professor Dr. Lubna Zaheer of Punjab University’s Department of Film and Broadcasting recently represented Pakistan at an international symposium at Okan University in Turkey. The event gathered global scholars and professionals to address pressing issues, with Dr. Zaheer focusing on the evolution of women’s representation in Pakistani media.

According to University of the Punjab, Dr. Zaheer’s presentation highlighted the progressive portrayal of women in Pakistani media as more independent and empowered compared to the past. She pointed out that this shift mirrors broader societal changes towards gender roles. The symposium served as a platform for Dr. Zaheer to underscore the media’s role in reflecting and shaping societal attitudes towards women. She cited historical examples of influential Pakistani women, including former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and political leader Maryam Nawaz Sharif, to emphasize the longstanding presence of empowered women in Pakistan’s history.

Dr. Zaheer’s insights sparked discussions on the media’s impact on public perception and the ongoing need for gender equality. Her participation in the symposium not only highlighted Pakistan’s academic contributions but also reinforced the country’s commitment to advancing women’s roles both within and beyond its borders.
