Pakistan Introduces New Batting Talent for Sri Lanka Test Series

Karachi: Pakistan has announced its Test cricket squad for the upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka, featuring fresh faces in the form of batters Sameer Minhas, Mohammad Taha, and Mohammad Suleman. The selection marks their first call-up to the national Test team.

According to International Cricket Council, the series is a component of the ICC World Test Championship 2025/27. Pakistan is currently positioned at the bottom of the championship rankings, while Sri Lanka holds the seventh spot. The team, led by Babar Azam, comprises 14 members who will compete in the series on home ground.

The squad retains several players from previous matches, including Abdullah Fazal, Arafat Minhas, Azan Awais, Mohammad Abbas, and wicketkeepers Mohammad Ghazi Ghori and Saad Baig. Additionally, Razaullah and Saud Shakeel remain in the lineup. However, Abdullah Shafique, who was instrumental in Pakistan's victory in the West Indies, has been left out following a less successful tour in England.

Left-arm spinner Ali Usman and batter Salman Agha have also been included in the squad. The emerging batters have made their mark in Pakistan's domestic first-class season, with Taha leading the President's Trophy Grade-I tournament with 730 runs, while Suleman and Sameer have also shown promise with their performances.

The series is scheduled to commence with the first Test from November 9 to 13 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, followed by the second Test from November 17 to 21 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
