Pakistan Emphasizes Preparedness on International Disasters Risk Reduction Day

ISLAMABAD: In a statement marking International Disasters Risk Reduction Day, President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan highlighted the nation's shift from merely responding to disasters to preparing for them. The president underscored the importance of using advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence and satellites, to enhance Pakistan's disaster management capabilities.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Zardari noted that the national disaster management system has made significant progress in predicting and responding to natural calamities. By employing real-time data, the system is able to issue early warnings, allowing communities to take preventive measures before disasters strike.

The president emphasized the critical role of local governments and communities in disaster response, pointing out that they are often the first to act and are most familiar with the local terrain and needs. Zardari called for national and international organizations to prioritize disaster preparedness and suggested that Pakistan's approach could serve as a model for other countries.

Zardari also advocated for regional cooperation in disaster risk reduction, emphasizing the need for cross-border early warning systems and global initiatives in water resilience, cryosphere protection, and climate adaptation. He appealed for stronger environmental protections and greater international collaboration on shared resources.

Highlighting the resilience and courage of the Pakistani people, Zardari expressed optimism about the country's potential to lead global efforts in combating climate-related disasters. He urged for collective action to build a prepared and resilient Pakistan.
