Islamabad: Secretary General of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), Syed Nayyer Hussain Bukhari, announced that the issue of imposing an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be presented before Parliament. Elected representatives are expected to deliberate on the matter and reach a final decision in accordance with constitutional procedures.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Bukhari emphasized the party's commitment to democracy, constitutional supremacy, and parliamentary sovereignty. He noted that invoking constitutional provisions may be necessary under extraordinary circumstances, but stressed that such measures must adhere strictly to constitutional guidelines and must not be influenced by political motives.
Bukhari raised concerns about the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government's performance in maintaining law and order, citing alleged shortcomings in its cooperation to combat terrorism. He noted that terrorist attacks on security institutions, police stations, and places of worship have created significant challenges for the public, leading to heightened fear and insecurity in affected areas.
He highlighted the necessity of effective measures to prevent cross-border infiltration and attacks from Afghanistan to ensure national security. Cooperation at both federal and provincial levels is crucial to eradicate terrorism and safeguard citizens' lives and property, he added.
Efforts by Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and President Asif Ali Zardari to resolve the issue through negotiations have reportedly not succeeded. Bukhari reiterated that Parliament will examine the emergency matter in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and decide on an appropriate course of action, underscoring the importance of constitutional, legal, and parliamentary processes in any decision-making.
