  • GCU WDC Turns Two Years Strong

    Lahore, July 04, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Women Development Center of GC University Lahore’s on Tuesday celebrated a significant milestone as it completed two years of its establishment empowering women and advocating for gender equality. The event was attended by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi, social activist Mrs. Kiran Zehra Zaidi, and Women Development Center in-charge Ms. Samira Khalil.

    Amidst an atmosphere of joy and accomplishment, Vice Chancellor Prof. Zaidi symbolically cut a celebratory cake, highlighting the importance of the occasion. He emphasized that the GCU Women Development Center was not just a physical space but a progressive movement that has aimed to redefine women’s rights, establish their rightful place in society, and foster their empowerment for the overall progress of everyone.

    Social activist Kiran Zehra Zaidi, in her remarks, commended the Women Development Center for its instrumental role in empowering female students on and outside the University campus and enabling their personal growth and development. Ms. Samira Khalil, the in-charge of the Women Development Center, announced that the Center had taken an additional step to support women by offering scholarships to deserving female students.

    “This initiative aims to remove financial barriers and promote educational opportunities for women, further strengthening their empowerment and fostering social progress,” she added.

  • Alumni Enjoy Annual Reunion in Melbourne

    Lahore, July 04, 2023 (PPI-OT): On Friday, May 19, 2023, alumni and LUMS leadership gathered at the Highlands Hotel in Melbourne for the annual reunion of the Melbourne Alumni Chapter.

    LUMS Vice Chancellor, Dr. Arshad Ahmad, accompanied by Director of Advancement, Ms. Nuzhat Kamran, and member of the LUMS University Advisory Board, Dr. Denise Chalmers met with alumni and shared updates on all the exciting new initiatives underway at LUMS, from the new centres and research to campus life and collaborative projects. The alumni expressed particular interest in the new graduate programme focused on Data Analytics offered at LUMS. The lively discussion also centered on alumni sharing their achievements, both academic and corporate.

    The organisers behind the event were the chapter ambassadors and included Mr. Ghulam Murtaza (MS 2007), Senior Technical Business Analyst at Bunnings; Ms. Ramsha Amir (BSc 2015), CSO at Australian Brushware Corporation; Mr. Sheikh Basil Saeed (BSc 2016), Business Analysis Consultant at BAPL, and Ms. Sana Fazal (BS 2017), Doctoral Student at Deakin University. The alumni and leadership enjoyed networking and acknowledged that the LUMS community is a source of great support, even outside Pakistan.

  • Alumni Reconnect at Annual Reunion in Sydney

    Lahore, July 04, 2023 (PPI-OT): Alumni reunions are a great way to bond, exchange versatile experiences and share personal achievements with one another whilst reminiscing about old times. The Sydney Alumni Chapter got the chance to do so on Saturday, May 20, 2023, when they came together at the Do Darya Grounds for a festive evening. They also had the opportunity to spend time with LUMS Vice Chancellor, Dr. Arshad Ahmad and Ms. Nuzhat Kamran, Director, Office of Advancement who were also in attendance.

    Dr. Omar Mubin (BS 2004), Associate Professor at Western Sydney University, and Ms. Fareeza Rasool (MBA 1990), Sessional University Academic at Macquarie University, played a key role in organising the event that included a lovely dinner as well as a presentation showcasing the chapter’s wide range of achievements.

    Other alumni that played an appreciable role in making the event a success included Mr. Najam Ul Hassan, Sales Planning, Enablement and Analytics Manager at TPG Telecom (MBA 2009), Mr. Bilal Farooq, Manager Data Science at WooliesX (BSc 2003), Mr. Umer Sarfraz Ahmed, Data Analyst at Canva (BSc 2005), Ms. Ayesha Usman, Data and Insights Manager at AMP (MBA 2009), Ms. Mariam Zahid, Community Engagement Manager, NSW Department of Education (BSc 2011), and Ms. Aalene Mahum Aneeq (BSc 2015). The volunteers in Sydney also played a significant role in ensuring that the reunion was well-planned and spectacular for all those present.

  • DAAD Scholarships in Germany for Development-Related Postgraduate Courses

    Islamabad, July 04, 2023 (PPI-OT): The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarships offer foreign graduates from development and newly industrialized countries from all disciplines and with at least two years’ professional experience the chance to take a postgraduate or Master’s degree at a state or state-recognized German university, and in exceptional cases to take a doctoral degree, and to obtain a university qualification (Master’s/PhD) in Germany.

    Course Level: Master and PhD

    Field of Study: Masters or PhD courses in Economic Sciences/Business Administration/Political Economics; Development Cooperation; Engineering and Related Sciences; Mathematics; Regional and Urban Planning; Agricultural and Forest Sciences; Natural and Environmental Sciences; Medicine and Public Health; Social Sciences, Education and Law; and Media Studies.

    Grants: The scholarships include monthly payments of 861 euros for graduates or 1,200 euros for doctoral candidates; payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover; and travel allowance, unless these expenses are covered by the home country or another source of funding.

    The scholarship duration is 12 to 24 months (depending on the particular institution) for Masters and 42 months for PhD.

    Eligibility: The typical scholarship holder:

    Is currently working either for a public authority or a state or private company in a developing country and, as such, is engaged in the planning and execution of directives and projects with emphasis on development policies having a bearing on technological, economic or social areas

    Holds a Bachelor’s degree (normally four years) in a related subject.

    Has completed an academic degree with far above average results (upper third) and at least two years of related professional experience after the first degree (bachelor) at the time of application

    His/her academic degrees should normally not be more than six years old.

    For study courses in German (scholarship includes a 6-month German language course): Successful passing of the language examination DSH 2 or TestDaF 4 before the start of the study course. Therefore, a minimum German language level of B1 at the time of application is a requirement that needs to be proofed by providing a certificate.

    For courses in English: Proof of adequate language skills, according to the regulations of the respective courses

  • Charles Darwin University RTP Scholarship 2023-24 (Fully funded)

    Islamabad, July 04, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Charles Darwin University RTP Scholarship 2023-24 in Australia is currently accepting applications. Both domestic and international students are eligible to apply for the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) 2023. These scholarships are fully funded and support students pursuing a Master’s degree by research or a Doctoral degree by research. The university offers a wide range of academic fields for students from around the world to choose from. The Australian Government Research Training Program scholarships cover all expenses associated with the study program. Successful applicants will receive the scholarship for the academic session of 2023-2024.

    Course Level: Masters, PhD

    Field of Study: All Subjects

    Grants: University Tuition Fee: The scholarship covers the cost of tuition fees for the chosen program of study.

    Free Accommodation: Students awarded this scholarship will receive free accommodation during their study period.

    Stipend: A stipend of $28,854 per annum will be provided to support living expenses.

    Reallocations Allowance: International students will also receive a reallocations allowance to assist with the costs of relocating to Australia.

    Please note that while the scholarship provides paid sick leave, it does not cover health allowances.

    Eligibility: Applications are open to both national and international students from around the globe. To be eligible for a Masters by research or a Master of Philosophy program, applicants must hold an Undergraduate degree with first or second-class honours from a recognized and respected university.

    For the PhD research program, applicants should demonstrate adequate prior research experience and capability. In most cases, eligibility criteria include:

    A bachelor’s degree with first or upper second-class honours.

    A master’s degree from an institution known for its high academic standards, which includes a significant research component.

    An equivalent qualification that showcases excellence and proficiency in research.

  • 50 Couples Tie the Knot in Mass Wedding Ceremony at TUF

    Faisalabad, July 04, 2023 (PPI-OT): Under the auspices of Madina Foundation, a solemn and dignified ceremony of mass wedding was organized at Amin Campus of the University of Faisalabad on July 3, 2023. The marriage expenditure of 50 orphan and deserving girls from Faisalabad and surrounding areas was borne by Madinah Foundation. The ceremony witnessed the union of fifty deserving couples.

    Essential dowry items and cash gifts were presented to the newlyweds during the event. Exquisite arrangements were made for meals for more than 1700 guests in attendance. The joy on the faces of those getting married was heart-warming, and they expressed their gratitude towards Madina Foundation for making the marriage event more accessible and feasible for the deserving individuals during these challenging times. It is worth mentioning that the Madina Foundation organizes such social wedding ceremonies regularly twice a year.

    After the marriages, special prayers were offered for the well-being of all the newlywed couples. Administration and Students of the University participated enthusiastically in the arrangements of the event. The guests appreciated the philanthropic services of Madinah Foundation and TUF for this noble cause.
