Openers Rise in ICC ODI Rankings, Challenging Babar Azam’s Top Position

India: In the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s ODI Batter Rankings, openers from India and Sri Lanka have made significant strides, positioning themselves as formidable challengers to Pakistan’s Babar Azam who currently leads the chart.

According to International Cricket Council, India’s Rohit Sharma and Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka have shown remarkable performance in the recent ODI series, where Rohit climbed to second place with his 157 runs, and Nissanka moved up to the eighth position following his 101-run contribution. Additionally, the series marked a milestone for Sri Lanka, breaking a 27-year victory drought against India, a factor contributing to other players like Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando moving up the rankings.

The rankings update also reflected significant changes in the ODI bowlers’ list and movements in the Test player rankings following a draw between the West Indies and South Africa in Trinidad. South Africa’s captain Temba Bavuma reached a career-high in the Test batters’ list, and spinner Keshav Maharaj rose in the bowlers’ rankings, highlighting his critical role in the match with eight total wickets.
