National Assembly Attendance Report Card Highlights Lawmakers’ Participation


ISLAMABAD: A recent report on the 16th session of the National Assembly reveals varied attendance patterns among lawmakers, with 45 members attending all 13 sittings and 27 absent from all. The session ran from May 5 to May 22, 2025.



The session, consisting of 13 sittings, saw the highest attendance on its first day, with 237 members, or 76 percent of the assembly, present. In contrast, the final sitting had the lowest turnout, with only 174 members, or 55 percent, in attendance.



According to the Free and Fair Election Network, 268 members, representing 86 percent of the assembly, missed at least one sitting during the session. Of these, 118 members, or 44 percent, submitted formal leave applications, while 150 members, or 56 percent, were absent without notice.



Among the cabinet, four federal ministers attended all the sittings. Three state ministers led their group in attendance, participating in 10 out of the 13 sittings. The Prime Minister was present for one sitting, whereas the Leader of the Opposition attended two sittings, equating to 15 percent of the total.
