National Assembly Attendance in 24th Session: Majority of Members Miss at Least One Sitting

Islamabad: During the 24th session of the National Assembly, which took place from February 2 to February 12, 2026, a notable pattern of absenteeism was observed among the members. Out of the 332 members, only 52 attended all seven sittings, while 54 members did not attend any sittings.

According to Free and Fair Election Network, the session's attendance varied significantly across the sittings. The first sitting saw the highest attendance, with 219 members present, marking 66 percent of the current membership. Conversely, the third sitting recorded the lowest attendance, with only 110 members, representing 33 percent.

The report highlights that 280 members, accounting for 84 percent, missed at least one sitting. Among the cabinet members, two federal ministers were present for all sittings, whereas nine ministers, including six federal ministers and three ministers of state, were absent throughout the session. The Prime Minister was notably absent from all sittings, while the Leader of the Opposition attended every session.

The report further reveals that of the 19 federal ministers scheduled to respond during Question Hour, only six were present on their respective days. Additionally, out of the three ministers required to address Calling Attention Notices, only one federal minister and one minister of state attended. One notice was handled by the Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs instead of the relevant minister, indicating a gap in ministerial accountability during the session.
