MWL Secretary General Meets President Zardari, Strengthens Pakistan-Saudi Ties

ISLAMABAD: Secretary General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and Chairman of the Organisation of Muslim Scholars, Dr Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, met with President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr today, underscoring the strengthening ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Dr Al-Issa was joined by H.E. Mr Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki, the Saudi Arabian Ambassador, and other officials from the MWL. President Zardari extended greetings to Saudi leadership and commended Dr Al-Issa’s efforts in promoting unity and interfaith harmony.

Dr Al-Issa highlighted the special bond between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, noting that their friendship is a source of pride for the Kingdom. He praised President Zardari’s political career and honored the legacy of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.

The recent defense cooperation agreement between the two nations was cited by Dr Al-Issa as a testament to their strategic alignment. President Zardari lauded the MWL’s initiatives against extremism and Islamophobia and its commitment to social welfare and education.

The President emphasized the significance of the Seerat-un-Nabi Museum, a symbol of shared reverence, and discussed the potential agreement between MWL and Pakistan’s Ministry of Religious Affairs for collaborative projects.

Reaffirming support for Palestinian self-determination, President Zardari welcomed Saudi-led peace efforts. He expressed anticipation for the Crown Prince’s upcoming visit and noted the expanding cooperation in various sectors, reinforcing the historic and respectful relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Senator Sherry Rehman and Maulana Tahir Ashrafi were also present at the meeting.
