NANKANA SAHIB: In the General Elections of 2024, the Member of the National Assembly (MNA) from NA-111 Nankana Sahib-I was elected with 113,711 votes out of 255,116 ballots cast, representing only 24 percent of the constituency's 482,346 registered voters.
According to Free and Fair Election Network, the final consolidated result for the constituency, as presented in Form-49, revealed a voter turnout of 53 percent. Despite achieving victory, the elected MNA did not have the support of the majority of voters who participated in the election on February 8, 2024. A total of 134,424 voters, or 53 percent, cast their ballots for other candidates, indicating a lack of majority support for the winner.
The election results further detailed that the runner-up candidate received 37 percent of the votes, while the third-placed candidate garnered 10 percent, and the remaining candidates collectively secured six percent. Additionally, 6,981 ballots, accounting for three percent of the total, were declared invalid.
This report is part of the Free and Fair Election Network's constituency-wise analysis, focusing on the unrepresentativeness of electoral outcomes in Pakistan. The analysis underscores the potential for the First-Past-The-Post system to distort representation in multi-candidate contests, where the majority of voters might feel unrepresented. This dynamic raises questions about the legitimacy of elected officials and may contribute to political instability in the country.
