LUMS Orientation 2024: Welcoming Over 1,200 Students with a Focus on Broad-Based Education

Lahore: Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) initiated its 2024 academic year by welcoming more than 1,200 new students with an extensive orientation program on August 30th. The orientation was crafted to integrate the students into the university’s community through a series of educational and social activities, preparing them for the challenges and opportunities of university life.

According to Lahore University of Management Sciences, the orientation included speeches from university leaders, interactive sessions with faculty, and a variety of social events aimed at building a cohesive student body. Vice Chancellor Dr. Ali Cheema highlighted the importance of a broad-based education in his address, noting the need for adaptability in the face of job market disruptions caused by technological advancements. Dr. Cheema emphasized that the LUMS curriculum is designed to equip students with diverse skills like critical thinking and problem-solving, preparing them to be leaders in any field they choose to enter.

Dr. Adnan Zahid, Dean of the Office of Student Affairs, detailed the orientation’s structure, which included sessions on academic integrity, course enrollment, and personal effectiveness. The program also featured social maturity workshops, major selection guidance, and recreational activities including sports competitions. These components were orchestrated to ensure a smooth transition into university life, supported by insights from valuable alumni panels.

More than 700 sessions facilitated by various campus offices and student groups, including the Student Orientation Committee and Peer Ambassador at LUMS for Social Support (PALss), underscored the community-driven approach to welcoming new students.

Provost Dr. Tariq Jadoon also addressed the students, congratulating them on their acceptance and underscoring the significance of the orientation in setting the tone for their educational journey at LUMS. He encouraged the students to embrace the comprehensive academic and extracurricular programs offered, reminding them that true success at LUMS is measured by the breadth of experiences and opportunities seized, beyond mere academic performance.
