Karachi’s Tax Revenue Should Fund Local Infrastructure, Says Pasban Democratic Party Leader

Karachi: Tariq Chandiwala, chief organizer of the Pasban Democratic Party in Karachi, has called for the city’s tax revenues to be reinvested locally to address its deteriorating infrastructure. Chandiwala criticized the current state of the city’s roads, particularly in the context of the People’s Party’s governance, which he likened to turning Karachi into ruins reminiscent of the ancient city of Mohenjo Daro.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, Chandiwala highlighted the severe impact of poor road conditions on the city’s residents, especially following recent rains that have exacerbated the problem. He pointed out that the disrepair causes frequent car accidents and contributes to air pollution from dust and debris. With upcoming cricket matches in Karachi, he also expressed concern about the inevitable road closures around the stadium, which will further inconvenience the public due to the already poor state of alternative routes.

Chandiwala criticized the local government and administration for their lack of attention to road repairs, stating that the citizens of Karachi suffer from various ailments, including back pain, due to the substandard road conditions. He also mentioned the economic losses stemming from vehicle damage, increased fuel consumption, and time wasted in traffic, which he argued affects not just the people but also the country’s economy. He lamented that despite decades of governance by the People’s Party, Karachi’s infrastructure has seen little improvement, making daily commutes a challenge for its residents.
