Rawalpindi: In light of ongoing redevelopment efforts at the National Bank Stadium, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has relocated the upcoming ICC World Test Championship match against Bangladesh to the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. This move is part of a broader effort to prepare the Karachi venue for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
According to Pakistan Cricket Board, the decision was made to avoid disruptions from construction, which includes heavy machinery and could negatively impact the environment of the games with noise and dust. The boards consulted construction experts who recommended that the ongoing work would not only be loud but potentially harmful to the health and performance of players and staff.
The shift ensures that the cricket season, packed with nine Tests, 14 T20Is, and at least 17 ODIs scheduled from August 21 through April 5, proceeds smoothly without compromise to player welfare or spectator experience. Both Tests against Bangladesh will now be held in Rawalpindi, with the first beginning on August 21 and the second on August 30. Meanwhile, discussions continue regarding the possibility of hosting the second Test in Karachi between October 15-19, with updates to be provided based on the progress of the stadium work.
In addition to the Test shifts, the Pakistan Shaheens and Bangladesh ‘A’ teams will play their series in Islamabad, with the second four-day match starting on August 20, followed by three 50-over matches.
Ticket sales for the Test matches at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium are now underway, accommodating fans eager to catch the live action.
