Judicial Commission Demanded for Election Rigging Allegations in Pakistan

Karachi, Dr. Sahibzada Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair, leader of Jamiat Ulema Pakistan and the National Solidarity Council, has called for the formation of a judicial commission to investigate widespread allegations of election rigging. The unprecedented move comes amid claims from both winning and losing parties of electoral malpractice, casting a shadow over the integrity of the country’s electoral process.

According to Jamiat Ulema Islam, Zubair emphasized that the recent elections were unique in Pakistan’s history, with complaints of rigging from multiple fronts, including significant political figures and parties across all four provinces. The controversy was further fueled by statements from the Commissioner of Rawalpindi and the public acknowledgment of electoral issues by prominent political leaders and international observers. Zubair criticized the dismissal of these allegations as mere conspiracy theories and stressed the need for a thorough and impartial investigation to restore public trust in the electoral system.

The call for a judicial commission is backed by the demand for the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation, arguing that a fair inquiry cannot proceed under his tenure. Zubair proposed that the commission operate without the inclusion of the chief justice to ensure its decisions are beyond reproach. The urgency and seriousness of these allegations have led to a national consensus on the need for transparency and accountability in the electoral process, aiming to safeguard the democratic foundation of Pakistan.
