Lahore: The University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Lahore, in collaboration with TU Dortmund University, Germany, has published its second academic book, "Planning in Germany and Pakistan: Climate Change and Development of Adaptive Strategies." This publication marks a significant advancement in the institutions' joint efforts to address climate change through cross-border collaboration.
According to University of Engineering and Technology, the book is the latest achievement in a multi-year project funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). This collaboration highlights the importance of international partnerships in tackling global ecological challenges. The new volume builds on the initial scholarly work titled "Planning in Germany and Pakistan: Responding to Challenges of Climate Change through Intercultural Dialogue," published in 2024. While the first volume focused on cross-cultural academic dialogue and vulnerability assessments, the second volume shifts to policy action, offering frameworks for localized urban planning and adaptive strategies in high-risk environments in Europe and South Asia.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir of UET Lahore praised the joint faculty members and researchers for their contributions to this ongoing scientific dialogue. He noted that the book series enhances UET Lahore's international research profile and provides essential models for urban planners working on climate adaptations. Prof. Dr. Munir also expressed gratitude to DAAD Germany for their sponsorship, emphasizing the value of educational exchanges in transferring expertise to vulnerable South Asian urban centers. The book series addresses critical modern topics, such as climate-resilient water infrastructure and sustainable risk-mitigation metrics. These publications are intended as resources for universities, policy think-tanks, and environmental agencies worldwide. The research project is led by Prof. Dietwald Gruehn from TU Dortmund, with Prof. Shaker Mahmood Mayo from UET Lahore serving as the Project Manager.
