Joe Root Solidifies Position as Top Test Batter in Latest ICC Rankings

Karachi: Joe Root has strengthened his lead in the International Cricket Council’s Men’s Test Batting Rankings following his recent on-field performances. After scoring back-to-back centuries in the second Test against Sri Lanka, Root now sits comfortably at the top with 922 rating points, extending his lead to 63 points over New Zealand’s Kane Williamson.

According to International Cricket Council, Root is on the verge of surpassing his personal best rating of 923, achieved in July 2022. His continued success places him among the elite, with only three English batters—Len Hutton, Jack Hobbs, and Peter May—having scored higher in their careers. Meanwhile, Gus Atkinson’s outstanding all-round performance in the same series earned him significant leaps in the rankings, positioning him in the top 20 for All-Rounders and top 30 for bowlers.
