IB Launches Global Youth Action Fund 2024 to Support Student-Led Projects

Geneva, The International Baccalaureate (IB) has announced the launch of its Global Youth Action Fund for the second consecutive year, aimed at empowering students aged 12 to 19 enrolled in secondary schools worldwide with project ideas that contribute to their communities. This initiative underscores the IB’s commitment to fostering student agency and leadership, aligning with its philosophy that young people have the potential to drive positive global change.

According to Pak NGOs, the Global Youth Action Fund seeks to support projects that align with one of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), providing selected students with up to 3,000 USD in grant funding. The amount awarded will depend on the project’s needs and the recommendations of the IB Global Youth Action Fund reviewers. In addition to financial support, awardees will receive mentorship and the opportunity to connect with leaders in social entrepreneurship and fellow student awardees from across the globe.

Eligibility for the fund is broad, with any secondary school student between the ages of 12 and 19 able to apply, either individually or as part of a group. While collaboration is highly recommended, it is not mandatory. Applicants are not required to be enrolled in an IB World School but must be attending a secondary school at the time of the application deadline.

The selection criteria for the fund are focused on the project’s impact on the SDGs, its stage of development, the capacity for collaboration, and the level of school support, as evidenced by a teacher recommendation. The IB places a preference on projects that demonstrate a clear positive impact, are further along in development, have the potential for scaling, and involve or have the capacity to involve other students.

This initiative by the IB represents a significant opportunity for young changemakers to gain support for their innovative ideas and projects aimed at creating sustainable solutions for global challenges. It not only provides the necessary resources to bring these ideas to life but also integrates young people into a global network of social entrepreneurs and leaders committed to making a difference.
