Habib University Hosts Events Celebrating Philanthropy and Education

Karachi: Habib University has recently highlighted its strides in reshaping philanthropy and transforming higher education in Pakistan. Through robust local and global community support and strategic partnerships with top-tier institutions, the university aims to make quality education accessible to deserving students from diverse backgrounds.

According to Habib University, their efforts to redirect philanthropic endeavors towards higher education address significant gaps in quality, accessibility, and affordability. This initiative is part of a broader movement to enhance the impact of giving within Pakistan, which traditionally focuses on primary education, healthcare, and social welfare. The university’s approach combines liberal arts education, innovative pedagogy, and research-oriented faculty to provide a world-class education that remains financially accessible.

Generous scholarships and financial aid programs underpin this mission. The Distinguished Yohsin Scholarships, Habib Excellence Scholarships, and Habib Merit Scholarships collectively ensure that 87% of students, including the entire class of 2024, receive some form of financial support. This commitment was celebrated at the “Shaping Futures, Reshaping Philanthropy” President’s Dinner on May 28, 2024, hosted by Mr. Wasif Rizvi, which recognized both graduates and donors, known as Mohsineen, for their contributions to the university’s success.

The event notably acknowledged Shahbaz Yasin Malik, CEO of Hilton Pharma, for his substantial support through the HU TOPS program, which awarded 100% scholarships to 22 students. Additionally, Rafiq M. Habib, President of Habib Bank AG Zurich, expressed deep appreciation for the community’s dedication to advancing higher education.

Following the dinner, Habib University organized a webinar on June 2, 2024, titled “Shaping Futures, Reshaping Philanthropy,” to further celebrate and discuss the importance of philanthropic support in education. Moderated by Dr. Nauman Naqvi, the webinar featured discussions with notable Mohsineen, faculty, and students from the graduating batch. Highlights included testimonials from Qaima Hossain, the class valedictorian who is set to pursue a PhD at Stanford University, and Areeb Adnan Khan, who discussed his participation in COP28 UAE with his project, IntellicropPK.

These events underscore Habib University’s ongoing commitment to fostering an environment where academic excellence and philanthropic support converge to empower the next generation of leaders in Pakistan.
