ISLAMABAD: Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Pakistan, Ms. Ina Lepel, met with President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr to discuss key areas of cooperation between the two nations, with a focus on climate action and economic ties.
President Zardari highlighted Germany’s longstanding partnership with Pakistan, emphasizing the importance of finalizing the Pakistan-Germany Climate Partnership Agreement. He noted the shared objectives of both countries in tackling global climate challenges.
The President welcomed German investments in Pakistan, particularly in renewable energy, IT, and industrial sectors. He pointed out Pakistan’s special incentives for foreign investors and suggested that establishing a Pakistan-Germany Chamber of Commerce in Karachi could strengthen trade relations.
In discussions about strategic dialogue, President Zardari acknowledged Germany’s offer to host the 6th Round of the Pakistan-Germany Strategic Dialogue. He appreciated the growth of bilateral cooperation on regional and international platforms.
President Zardari also recognized Germany’s efforts in the Afghan relocation programme and its support for Pakistan’s GSP+ status within the European Union.
Ambassador Lepel, serving her third posting in Pakistan, informed the President about her previous tenures in the country. She also discussed matters concerning education, skilled labor mobility, and consular issues.
President Zardari expressed satisfaction with the increasing number of Pakistani students in Germany and urged for a swift resolution of delays in family reunion and business visas.
