Lahore: In a significant educational boost, the Chinese Consul General, His Excellency Zhao Shiren, awarded scholarships to students of Government College University (GCU) Lahore. The ceremony, held at the University’s Bukhari Auditorium, saw 66 students, including visually impaired Muhammad Nihal Roshan, receive scholarship cheques totaling PKR 2 million. This initiative benefits students primarily from the International Relations and Political Science departments.
According to Government College University, the scholarships, initiated a few months ago by Zhao Shieen, were distributed on Friday in an event attended by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir. The scholarships aim to reward merit and achievement among students, reflecting China’s commitment to supporting Pakistani education and strengthening bilateral ties. Prof. Dr. Bashir expressed gratitude for China’s ongoing support and highlighted the positive impact of these scholarships on the students’ academic pursuits.
Further enriching the ceremony, Consul General Zhao Shiren mentioned the upcoming opportunities for 1,000 Pakistani students to train in China in fields like agricultural technology and artificial intelligence. This move is part of a broader initiative to enhance bilateral cooperation in education following recent diplomatic engagements between Pakistan and China.
