Chess Enthusiasts Gather at University of Sindh for Provincial Tournament

Jamshoro: The University of Sindh’s Law Department was the venue for the first provincial chess tournament, a collaborative initiative by the Hyderabad and Jamshoro Chess Associations, marking a significant event for local chess enthusiasts. Thirty players representing various universities and colleges participated in the tournament.

Azhar Akhund claimed victory in a challenging final match against Sarfraz Ahmed, culminating the competition with a display of strategic prowess and tactical acumen.

Director Sports at the University of Sindh, Ajwed Bhatti, commended the efforts of Danish Mangi, Head of the Law Department, and Arun Barkat, Chairperson of the Sports Committee, during the prize distribution ceremony. He recognized their roles in organizing an event of this scale in the newly established department.

Bhatti also emphasized chess’s role in enhancing critical skills such as problem-solving, future planning, memory, and quick thinking, underscoring the game’s educational value.
