Karachi: A young student who underwent three brain surgeries at Aga Khan University Hospital is now studying medicine at the same institution. Wasay Salman, a second-year MBBS student, reflects on his journey from being a patient to walking the university's lecture halls with the aim of becoming a doctor, inspired by the very place that saved his life.

According to The Aga Khan University, Salman's path to becoming a medical student was shaped by his experiences as a patient. His journey began in April 2020, when he required emergency brain surgery after experiencing debilitating headaches and nausea. Despite the challenges of multiple surgeries and recovery, Salman was determined to pursue a career in medicine. His resolve was further strengthened after a consultation with his surgeon, Dr. Ather Enam, who encouraged him to return to AKU as a student.

Salman's firsthand experiences with medical care at AKU fueled his ambition to contribute to the field of medicine. His acceptance into the MBBS program in October 2024 marked a significant milestone in his journey.
