Islamabad: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, addressed the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected members of the Ittehad Union of All Pakistan Employees of OGDCL, emphasizing the PPP’s enduring commitment to labor rights over three generations.
According to a statement by Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari congratulated the newly elected President Zahid Hussain Bhutto and other union members. He remarked on the historical collaboration between the PPP and laborers, notably during the leadership of Quaid-e-Awam, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, which resulted in unprecedented rights for workers. He also highlighted the support laborers provided to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto in her struggles against military dictators.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reiterated the PPP’s commitment to the labor agenda, noting the implementation of labor policies during the Sindh government’s tenure. He emphasized the importance of labor support for economic growth, recalling his efforts in increasing employee allowances during his time as Foreign Minister and pointing out the PPP’s previous government initiatives in 2011.
He asserted that the union members’ success reflects broad institutional support for their cause. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stressed the significance of a government that aligns with the people’s will, referencing the 18th Amendment as an example of successful consensus-based decisions.
The Chairman expressed concern over current political dynamics, advocating for consensus-driven policies and criticizing divisive politics. He underscored the necessity of addressing public issues over political vendettas, positioning the PPP as a representative voice for the people in governmental affairs.
