Anwar Maqsood’s New Play ‘House Arrest’ Announced at Arts Council Karachi Press Conference.

Karachi: The press conference for the theatrical production “House Arrest,” a collaboration between Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi and Copycats Productions, was held at Hasina Moin Hall. The event featured prominent figures such as well-known intellectual and humorist Anwar Maqsood, President of the Arts Council Muhammad Ahmed, and Director Dawar Mahmood, who provided insights into the play.

According to Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, “House Arrest” is set to debut on January 15, 2025, at the Arts Council. Anwar Maqsood, who has been developing this drama for two years, is the writer, while Dawar Mehmood is the director. President Muhammad Ahmed Shah expressed his gratitude towards the media for their coverage and highlighted the ongoing efforts at the Arts Council, including the inauguration of the Awami Theater Festival and the upcoming Urdu Conference in December.

During the press briefing, Anwar Maqsood shared his personal connection to the story, reflecting on his experiences of being “handcuffed” both in youth and later in life. He emphasized that the play is a humorous narrative meant for audiences to enjoy without offending any particular group. Director Dawar Mehmood described working on the play as an honor, noting the valuable experience of collaborating with Anwar Maqsood. The production is scheduled to conclude before Ramadan, marking a significant cultural event for the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi.
