Karachi: The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has been honored with its third consecutive Platinum Performance Achievement Award by the American College of Cardiology (ACC). This accolade acknowledges the hospital's adherence to evidence-based, guideline-directed care for heart attack patients.
According to the Aga Khan University, the award is based on AKUH's involvement in the ACC Chest Pain-MI Registry, which allows hospitals to evaluate their care processes against established clinical standards. This participation helps ensure that patient care is aligned with internationally recognized best practices, supported by a system that regularly reviews care delivery methods. The registry enables AKUH's clinical teams to utilize data to enhance the quality and consistency of heart attack care, focusing on timely assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and continuous care.
"This third consecutive international recognition is a strong endorsement of our commitment to evidence-based, patient-centered cardiac care," stated Dr. Farhat Abbas, CEO of AKU Health System, Pakistan. The recognition comes at a time when Pakistan faces an increasing burden of cardiovascular disease, highlighting the need for understanding evolving patterns of heart disease, especially among younger adults.
Dr. Javed Majid Tai, Director of the Cath Lab and Site Director of the National Cardiovascular Data Registry at AKUH, emphasized the importance of continuous learning in delivering consistent care for heart attack patients. Meanwhile, Dr. Farhala Baloch, Assistant Professor in the Section of Cardiology at AKUH, noted the critical need to address the rising concern of heart attacks among younger adults through early recognition of risk factors and enhanced prevention and treatment strategies.
The third consecutive Platinum Performance Achievement Award underscores AKUH's ongoing dedication to advancing cardiovascular care and ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality heart attack care to its patients.
