Aafia Movement Delays Islamabad Sit-in Following Government’s Commitment to Appeal for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s Release

Karachi: In a significant development, the Aafia Movement has decided to postpone their planned sit-in at D Chowk, Islamabad, originally scheduled for September 22. This decision follows a fruitful meeting between the movement’s delegation, led by Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui, and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaque Dar in Islamabad on Friday.

According to Aafia Movement, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaque Dar, in the presence of Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, committed to Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui that the government would formally request the US government’s intervention for the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui. This assurance has led to the temporary suspension of the sit-in as the movement evaluates its next steps, which will be announced shortly.

Furthermore, the Aafia Movement continues to mobilize support for a protest on September 23 against the 86-year imprisonment of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui. The movement has called upon all political and social entities to participate actively and ensure their voices resonate globally.
