Oman Secures Spot in Cricket World Cup 2027 Qualifiers Amid Fierce Competition

Dubai: The path to the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027 has taken a decisive turn as Oman clinched an automatic spot in the Cricket World Cup Qualifier by finishing above Namibia in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 standings. This marks a critical juncture in the qualification process, as teams vie for the remaining spots in the upcoming global tournament.

According to International Cricket Council, Oman secured its place by leveraging a Net Run Rate tiebreaker, despite a loss on the final day of the competition. Meanwhile, Namibia, along with other League 2 bottom-four finishers—Nepal, UAE, and Canada—remain in contention for a World Cup berth through the Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off.

The Cricket World Cup 2027 will feature 14 teams, with South Africa and Zimbabwe automatically qualifying as hosts, and eight more teams earning their spots through the ICC Men's ODI Rankings as of September 30, 2026. The remaining four slots will be filled through the Qualifier and the preceding Qualifier Play-off.

Currently, 14 teams are in the running for the four remaining World Cup spots. Six teams have already secured their place in the 10-team Qualifier set for February 2027, leaving eight teams to battle in December's Play-off for the final entries.

The Qualifier will see participation from teams like Ireland and the West Indies, alongside top League 2 finishers USA, Scotland, the Netherlands, and Oman. The bottom four in League 2, including Namibia and others, will have another shot via the Qualifier Play-off, which also includes top finishers from the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Challenge League—Jersey, Kuwait, Italy, and Uganda.

The Play-off will determine which four teams will join the already qualified six in the 2027 Qualifier, thereby deciding the final participants of the Cricket World Cup 2027.
