DHAKA: Bangladesh has announced its squad for the upcoming ICC Women's Emerging Nations Trophy event in the United Arab Emirates. The competition will serve as the first opportunity for Nahida Akter to demonstrate her leadership skills as the new captain, following her appointment as Nigar Sultana Joty's successor last month. The Bangladesh team is placed in Group B, along with Pakistan, Thailand, Netherlands, and Zimbabwe, in the 10-team tournament commencing on November 12.
According to International Cricket Council, experienced batter Sobhana Mostary has been named vice-captain to support Nahida. Sultana Joty, despite relinquishing the captaincy, will continue to play in the 15-member squad. Marufa Akter, a key pacer, will miss the event due to an ongoing ankle issue, with Disha Biswas returning to the squad after missing Bangladesh's Asian Games campaign in September. Opener Sathi Rani and all-rounder Jannatul Ferdus Sumona have been recalled, while batter Sharmin Sultana and off-spinner Sultana Khatun were not selected.
Bangladesh is set to face Pakistan in their opening match at the tournament at Karwan Cricket Ground in Ajman on November 12.
