Afghanistan Climbs to Highest-Ever Sixth Spot in ICC Men’s ODI Rankings

Kabul: Afghanistan has achieved its highest ranking in the ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings, climbing to sixth place, surpassing Sri Lanka. According to International Cricket Council, Afghanistan's ascent in the rankings marks a significant milestone since their ODI debut in 2009. The team has been steadily improving, with notable victories over cricketing powerhouses Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, and reaching the semi-finals in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2024.

Afghanistan's record in the ODI format includes 96 wins out of 191 matches, reflecting a win-loss ratio of 1.09. This recent ranking achievement places them above established teams like Bangladesh, England, and West Indies, underscoring their growing presence on the international stage. Their recent performances include a 4-0 series victory over Ireland and an unbeaten run in a tri-series against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. Additionally, they achieved a clean sweep against Zimbabwe in T20Is and are set to compete in a two-match Test series against them.
