HBL PSL 12 Framework Finalized: Franchises Reach Consensus on Retention, Auction, and Squad Structures

Lahore: All eight franchises of the HBL Pakistan Super League convened at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium to finalize the operational framework for the upcoming HBL PSL 12 season. This workshop resulted in unanimous agreements on squad structures, player movements, and the terms for the Player Auction.

According to Pakistan Cricket Board, the workshop was led by PSL CEO Salman Naseer and represented the most significant collective session between the league and franchise partners in the current cycle. Discussions covered a range of topics, including Direct Signings, Player Retentions, Trade Windows, Squad Sizes, and Salary Caps, leading to a comprehensive consensus among all franchises.

The deadline for player retentions has been set for January 13, 2027, strategically placed between the National T20 Silver and Gold tournaments. This timing allows franchises to make informed retention decisions based on recent player performances. Each franchise is allowed to retain up to seven players, including their Direct Signing. Franchises opting for maximum retention must release one player from the highest price tier to ensure the availability of top talent in the auction.

The franchises reviewed and unanimously adopted the HBL PSL 12 Auction Rules. The Player Auction, scheduled for January 23, 2027, will be the second in the league's history. Each franchise will have a salary cap of PKR 45 crore, with potential increases depending on Direct Signings. A minimum spend requirement has been set at PKR 36.5 crore.

Direct Signings remain open until November 23, 2026, allowing each franchise to sign one marquee player not featured in the previous two seasons of the PSL. PSL CEO Salman Naseer emphasized the importance of the collaborative process, noting the engagement and openness of all franchises and the potential for domestic performers to influence squad decisions in real time.
