Islamabad: On the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, First Lady Bibi Asifa Bhutto Zardari emphasized the ongoing struggles faced by women, children, and families in poverty. Her statement highlighted the need for increased efforts to ensure basic necessities and opportunities for all citizens.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, the First Lady reiterated the importance of initiatives like the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), which empowers women by providing financial aid directly to them. The initiative aims to enhance women's control over their lives and improve their ability to care for their families. She also mentioned programs such as Benazir Taleemi Wazaif and Benazir Nashonuma, which focus on education and nutrition, advocating for breaking the cycle of poverty to ensure a child's birth circumstances do not limit their future.
The First Lady also expressed support for the Sindh People's Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF) program, which is rebuilding climate-resilient homes for those affected by the 2022 floods. The initiative emphasizes women's ownership and secure land rights, offering security and independence to affected families. She urged continued commitment to creating a Pakistan where no family is left without hope or opportunity.
