Lahore: The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Punjab Provincial Branch and the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore have formalized a collaboration aimed at enhancing youth capacity building and humanitarian cooperation. This initiative is set to focus on volunteerism, disaster management, first aid, and other humanitarian services.
According to University of Engineering and Technology, the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signifies a commitment from both institutions to equip young individuals with essential knowledge and skills to assist their communities during emergencies and crises. The agreement outlines the establishment of a Youth Club at UET Lahore, where selected students will register as Red Crescent volunteers and receive professional training in various humanitarian disciplines including First Aid, Disaster Response, and Youth as Agents of Behavioural Change (YABC).
The partnership extends to offering UET students and staff opportunities for participation in national and international workshops, seminars, and training programs. UET Lahore will support and facilitate these activities on campus, and in tandem with PRCS, will organize blood donation drives specifically aimed at aiding thalassemia patients. The university will also promote student involvement in volunteer programs without hindering academic responsibilities.
Additionally, the MoU provides internship opportunities with PRCS Punjab for selected students, granting them practical exposure to humanitarian work and disaster preparedness. This agreement is slated to last for an initial period of five years, during which both parties are dedicated to regular evaluations and the ongoing development of initiatives that enhance community resilience and youth leadership.
This collaboration marks a significant effort in nurturing a culture of volunteerism and disaster readiness among Pakistan's youth, aligning with the mutual objective of both organizations to contribute positively to society through cooperative and innovative approaches.
